Lady Gaga or Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta was born in March 28, 1986. She was born in New York and attended Tisch School of Arts in New York University, but left it to pursue a career in music. Apart from being a pop singer, she is also an activist, songwriter, businesswoman, record producer, philanthropist, fashion designer and actress. She started performing very early in her life especially in Lower Manhattan area. She was spotted by Vincent Herbert in the year 2007 and was signed by Interscope Records. She began her career at Interscope as a songwriter, but her incredible singing abilities caught the attention of Akon at the Interscope recording studio. Akon signed her up for his own label, Kon Live Distribution, which was also under Interscope’s banner.

Road to fame

Lady Gaga came into the limelight with her album The Fame, which marked her debut in the music fraternity in August 2008. The album soon became popular and it became hugely successful both commercially and critically.Both Poker Face and Just Dance featured in the album became number one singles in various international charts. Her rocking hit singles which include Telephone, Bad Romance and Alejandro were part of The Fame Monster extended play. This play became hugely successful and graced by audiences all over the world. Along with this, came the Monster Ball Tour concert which is till date the highest grossing music concert. In May 2011, Gaga released her much awaited second chart buster album Born This Way, which ruled the international charts in almost all the markets. Foot tapping singles like Judas, Born This Way and The Edge of Glory rocked the international charts. In November 2013, Artpop her third album was released. Before its release Gaga launched two singles Do What U Want and Applause.

Lady Gaga got influenced by famous performers like Michael Jackson, David Bowie, Queen and Madonna and this can be seen her diverse and flamboyant fashion and music contributions. Her videos are a testament of her hardcore performances and fashion statements. Till November 2013, 125 million singles and 24 million albums have been sold worldwide and these are some of the best-selling ones. Gaga has been awarded the prestigious Grammy five times and she has received the MTV Video Music Awards thirteen times. She has also been on the Billboard magazine number of times and has been rated number four in the list of 100 Greatest Women in Music by VH1 and top selling US singles artist by RIAA. She has also featured in the Forbes magazine 2010-2013 editions in the list of 100 Most Powerful Women. Time magazine also ranked her in the list of world’s most influential people. Apart from her professional career, she has been a strong supporter and activist for the LGBT community.

Personal and early life

Lady Gaga attended NYU for training on musical theater at the Tisch School of the Arts. It is during this period that she mastered songwriting skills and composed various analytical papers and essays on religion, art, politics and social issues along with a thesis on popular pop artists Damien Hirst and Spencer Tunick.
