Rihana – More than a Singer
Rihanna has rocked the world of entertainment with her contributions to the pop music. She was born on 20th February in the year 1988 in Saint Michael of Barbados. Her father Mr. Ronald Fenty is of Aftican-Irish origin whereas her mother Monica Fenty is of Guyanese ancestry. Her original name is Robyn Rihanna Fenty. She is the elder sister of her two brothers nakmed Rorrey Fenty and Rajad Fenty.
At her teen age, Rihanna got involved with the music. She was formed a music group with her two friends. She was got her first break as a singer when she was only 15 years old. She was so lucky that one of her friend was introduced her with veteran music composer Mr. Evan Rogers of New York. Rihanna moved to US to start her career as a singer under the guidance of Rogers. After that she was signed a contract with Def Jam Recordings.

Career in Music
Basically Rihanna was influenced in music by Beyonce Knowles, Madonna, Mariah Carey, Bob Marley and Alicia Keys. She was released her debut music album “Music of the Sun” in the year 2005. The album was broke all the previous records and peaked at No.2 position on the US Billboard and Hot 100 charts and also the UK Charts. Nearly five lacs copies of the album were sold in US and more than two million copies were sold out worldwide. She also tried her luck in films. She was acted her debut film Bring It On: All or Nothing. She was also worked in advertisements of few companies like Nike and J. C. Penney. She is also very good songwriter and was written few songs for her own albums.

Achievements
In the year 2007 Rihanna won two awards in the MTV Video Music Awards in the categories of Video of the Year and Monster Single of the year for her hit single Umbrella. She was also nominated in five categories which includes Female Artist of the year.
In the year 2008 Rihanna won the first Grammy Award in the category of Best Rap/Sung Collaboration for her single Umbrella. She was also nominated in other two categories which are Song of the Year and Record of the Year. In the same year Rihanna was nominated and won the American Music Awards in the categories of Favourite Pop/Rock Femal Artist and favorite Soul/R&B Female Artist.
At 2009 she also nominated for three categories in Grammy Awards. They are Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals, Best Dance Recording and Best Long Form Music Video. She has won almost forty five awards in various categories.

Charity Work
Rihanna was started The Believe Foundation in the year 2006 to help the terminally ill children. She also raises huge funds to different charities and foundations by performing number of concerts for them. She also spread awareness about HIV/Aids. She was also chosen as a spokes model for Gucci’s UNICEF advertising campaign. Rihanna is also employed herself as the cultural ambassador of Barbados.
Rihanna strongly believes in her music and will continue to entertain her audiences with her music.
